D’Amboise for U.S. Senate 2012

Freedom is the most important of human possessions, and I think that we may be in danger of losing ours. If elected, I shall do everything in my power to restore and protect freedom, for the people of Maine and for our great nation.

Issues

Obamacare

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe was the only Republican voting in favor of the health care reform bill in the Senate Finance Committee1 - a critical step that cleared the way for the bill to be passed.
The bill included billions of dollars in new taxes on small businesses and individuals, cuts billions of dollars from Medicare, and imposes an unconstitutional mandate that criminalizes those who do not pay for health insurance.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise understands the impact that burdensome taxes and regulations have on the people of Maine and small businesses.

As an experienced small business owner, Scott would have voted against the government mandate and the criminalization of those who opt out.

Scott supports deregulation to increase competition in the marketplace, resulting in the reduction of health care costs as opposed to driving up costs as seen under the Snowe supported Obama plan. Scott also believes that strengthening patient's rights does not require government intervention.

Supreme Court Nominees

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe voted in favor of Barack Obama’s liberal judicial nominees.

Her votes to confirm Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor2 and Elena Kagan3 propelled activist to the bench that favor stricter gun control laws and legalized abortion.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise would have voted against Justices Sotomayor and Kagan; he would oppose all judicial nominees signaling their unwillingness to adhere to the Framer’s intent for the Constitution.

Scott believes all judges should adhere to their mandate to interpret the law of the land rather than to write it through legal decisions.

Start Treaty

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe voted with Democrats to approve the START Treaty which limits the ability of the US to develop and implement a strategic missile defense system4.

At the same time, the legislation requires us to reduce our strategic nuclear arsenal.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise supports the goal of reducing nuclear arms proliferation throughout the world.
However, rogue nations are working diligently to build nuclear arsenals.

American must not give away our sovereignty or undermine our ability to safeguard national security.

Career Politicians & Term Limits

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe has spent 33 years in the United States Senate and become more interested in wielding the power of the office than representing the people of Maine.

It is career politicians like Snowe that have gotten us into the economic mess we are in today.

Federal spending has increased by $2.3 trillion per year under Snowe’s watch while the national debt has increased by $11.3 trillion5, 6.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise knows that after decades in Washington career politicians lose the real life perspective that Maine families and businesses all share.

After decades of minding a perch on Capitol Hill politicians become susceptible to an ego driven self-importance.

It is for this reason that Scott supports a Constitutional Amendment for a reasonable term limit for Members of Congress of twelve years (two terms).

Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe voted for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell which would allow for openly gay people to serve in the military7.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise supports the reasonable policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell adopted by President Clinton and upheld by President George W. Bush and a majority of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Spending and National Debt

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe voted to increase the debt ceiling 9 times. In July 2011, Snowe promised to support a debt ceiling bill that included a balanced budget amendment; however, two weeks later Snowe betrayed her promise to us and voted to give Obama a blank check by raising the debt ceiling with only token spending cuts and without a balanced budget amendment. Snowe has also voted against a number of bills that would have cut spending before we reached this crisis point, including a bill that would have cut $40 billion starting in 2005 (Vote 363 – on motion, December 21, 2005). This pro-spending behavior has helped earn her the title of the “Most Liberal” Republican Senator in Washington by the American Conservatives Union 8.

Scott D'Amboise:

Out of control spending and career politicians’ belief that a bigger government is a better government has resulted in massive deficits and a staggering national debt. Scott D’Amboise is proud to be one of the first signers of the Cut, Cap and Balance plan that calls for Congress to cut existing spending by at least $4 trillion billion dollars, cap future spending, and pass a Balanced Budget Amendment that would only allow the government to spend what they bring in.

Bailouts/Stimulus

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe believes that government is always the answer. Snowe was the deciding vote that passed Obama’s $838 Billion Economic Stimulus plan in 2009 9.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise is opposed to any and all government bailouts of private companies. The free-markets must be allowed to operate unencumbered by senseless overregulation and biased decisions on which companies should be allowed to fail and which should receive bailouts. D’Amboise will vote for no bailouts or stimulus programs.

Conservative Values

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe has earned the title of the “Most Liberal” Republican in the U.S. Senate, voting with Republicans fewer times than any other GOP member 10. As she faces stiff competition from the right, Snowe has tried to claim that she is a conservative; however, she has voted to uphold Roe vs Wade legalizing abortion 11, voted against bills to reduce government spending, voted for Obama’s bailout 12, voted repeatedly to increase the national debt limit 13, and helped pass Obama’s socialistic healthcare plan 14. There is no doubt that Snowe is a liberal.

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise is an unabashed Conservative. He believes that the United States of America is still the greatest country in the world in part because of the conservative approach to governance that includes individual freedoms, free-markets, individual and support for the traditional family. Scott believes in the right to life, traditional marriage and the right to bear arms.

Illegal Immigration

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe has long been a supporter of amnesty programs and weak immigration laws, voting in support of a “pathway to citizenship” for illegal immigrants (S2611, May 25, 2006).

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise believes that we need to enforce our current immigration laws and secure our borders with a combination of Immigration and Military personnel. Career politicians have tolerated, and even indirectly, supported illegal immigration resulting in a higher cost of entitlements and the corrupting the rule of law. Scott stands in complete opposition to amnesty allowances like the Dream Act.

Economy

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe has been the deciding vote in a number of bills that levy heavier regulations on free markets (Dodd-Frank Bill, July 15, 2010) 15, and was cast the vote that passed Obama’s $838 Billion Economic Stimulus Package 16

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise says that “the best way the federal government can create jobs is to get out of the way!” Scott will work to reduce the corporate tax rate, pass legislation that simplifies corporate and personal tax codes, reduce and eliminate harsh market regulations.

Pro-Life

Olympia Snowe:

Olympia Snowe voted with Democrats for a bill expressing the support of Congress for the Supreme Court’s decision to make law and legalize abortion in Roe versus Wade 17.

Snowe also voted to allow federal funding for research on stem cells of aborted babies (HR 810; July 18, 2006).

Scott D'Amboise:

Scott D’Amboise supports the sanctity of life.

Scott believes that not only should the Supreme Court not make law from the bench, but Senators should not express support for bypassing the legislative process.
